Princess Pageant Guidelines


Eligibility

Each contestant in the Miss Rodeo Texas Princess Pageant shall:

Be between the age of nine (9) and thirteen (13) by the first day of the State Pageant.

Be a legal resident of the state of Texas for a minimum of one (1) year.

Be attending a public or private school or be home schooled.

Be a student in good standing.

Have executed all consents, waivers and/or agreements presented as conditions precedent to competition.

Be representing a local pageant or local sponsor. (no commercial entries are allowed; example – Miss Rodeo Smith Western Wear)

Abide by all rules and regulations of the Miss Rodeo Texas Princess Pageant.

Have not been disqualified or had the title forfeited in the Miss Rodeo Texas Princess Pageant.

Note: Any contestant not meeting the qualifications set forth above, shall be denied the right to compete in the Miss Rodeo Texas Princess Pageant.

Judging

Horsemanship:  Contestant must submit a DVD at registration on the first day of the pageant. The tape may not exceed 2 ½ minutes and should include:
a) the contestant standing on the ground holding her horse while she introduces herself and says her title.
b) the pattern.
NOTES:
a) you do not have to tape the contestant getting on the horse.
b) you may tape as many times as needed to get the pattern perfect.
c) Princess contestants are still required to attend the Miss and Teen horsemanship competition to learn what is expected in later years.

Interviews: Each contestant will have three private interviews in the categories of Horsemanship, Personality and Appearance. They may also be interviewed as a group if the judges so desire.

Extemporaneous Questions: Extemporaneous questions will be asked of each contestant during pageant functions. Questions may relate to the sport of rodeo, current events, personality, appearance, and/or basic horsemanship.

Entry Requirements – Deadline May 23
Each contestant must do the following, by the date above, to be accepted as an entrant into the pageant:

1. Submit a complete and notarized application. Please do not change, add, or deviate the official application.

2. Pay a $200.00 entry fee.

3. Send the name of your sponsor, the person’s name to contact, a correct mailing address, city, zip code and a phone number with the rest of your entry.

4. Submit eight (8) 5x7 vertical head and shoulder photographs of the same pose using a plain background. Your name, title, address, age and division must be typed on a label and placed on the back of all photographs. All photographs become the property of the Miss Rodeo Texas Pageant and WILL NOT be returned to the contestant.

5. Sell a minimum of two (2) pages in advertisements for the official pageant program and turn in by the specified deadline. The contestant shall receive 20% back on any amount sold over the required two (2) pages. Please see program ad guidelines for more information.

6. Send proof of age. (i.e. birth certificate, driver’s license)

7. Return a notarized Release of Liability.

8. Send the latest copy of a school transcript.

9. The above requirements must by post marked by the deadline date and sent to the MRT Office.

Dress Code

Crown: If a contestant has a crown for the title she is representing at the pageant, she should wear the crown for competition.

Banner: All contestants must wear a “Title Banner,” which the contestant must furnish. Sash must be white satin with black embroidered letters. The banners must be 4 inches wide and 30 inches long and purchased from Archer Monograms, P.O. Box 1701, Twin Falls, ID 83301. For questions, call (208) 733-6243. Fill out the Banner form and mail it to the above address to place your order, do not call. Be sure to tell them it is for the Miss Rodeo Texas Pageant so they will use the correct lettering and set-up. Your check or money order must accompany the order. Please allow four (4) weeks for delivery. For questions about the banners, call (208) 733-6243.  

Photogenic: Outfit of your choice, vertical 5 x 7 color head and shoulders photo. Picture must include hat. A crown may also be worn if you so choose. You should not wear your banner.

Throughout competition: Wrangler pant product with blouse and/or jacket, belt, boots, hat, banner and crown (if applicable).

Awards Breakfast: Contestants receiving awards must wear the same outfit that they wore for Coronation. Other contestants may wear a Wrangler product with blouse and/or jacket. All contestants must be in full western attire including boots, hats, belts and banners.

Note: Wrangler pant product refers to any fabric or style of pant, jean, or slack that is manufactured by Wrangler.

Other Pageant Requirements      

All Princess contestants will room with a parent and/or guardian. Parents and/or guardians are encouraged to stay at the host hotel, Oak Hills Medical Center Hotel, Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio. Rooms will go fast and we suggest that you make your reservations early. To receive the negotiated rate, please inform the hotel that you will be there for the Miss Rodeo Texas Pageant.

A parent and/or guardian is responsible for transporting their daughter to pageant functions off of the hotel premises and for getting them there on time.

Princess contestants will follow the same schedule as the participants in the other two divisions. They will check-in and depart just as the Miss and Teen contestants but they will be under the supervision of their parents when not competing.

During competition, all contestants will be seated together and be supervised by some of the pageant committee.

After the Miss Rodeo Texas Princess Coronation, contestants will be brought to the auditorium and seated together so that they may watch the Miss and Teen Coronations. Parents are asked not to approach their daughters until authorized by pageant personnel.

Contestants must register in the lobby of the hotel between Noon and 1:00 p.m. on the first day of the pageant. Orientation will be held at 1:15 p.m. See pageant schedule.

Parents are urged to attend all “Open” functions, such as breakfasts and luncheons that are posted. Tickets may be purchased after orientation on the first day of the pageant in the Parent Hospitality Room. 

Denim and any type of short is not allowed at the Petroleum Club or Club Giraud.

Coronation will be held on Friday night and contestants are REQUIRED to attend the Awards Breakfast on Saturday morning. Any contestant that leaves without permission will forfeit all awards and their right to participate in the pageant in the future.
